Bladed Edge Between (Presale Sept 2025)
by Ruby Singh

Bladed Edge Between navigates intersections of memory, sound, and survival. This work unfolds as a sonic archive of longing, belonging, and becoming. Anchored in the sacredness of place, diasporic grief, and mystical remembrance, the poems move through ecological resonance, spiritual inheritance, and intergenerational healing. This expansive, multilingual collection uses the structure of Indian classical music as a formal and emotional scaffolding—ascending (Arohi), descending (Avroh), breaking open (Jhala), collapsing into silence (Khali). Each section becomes a note, a blade, a wound, and a prayer. Ruby Singh gifts us a speculative map through which the past sings into the future, always with us, all ways a part of us.

“Nothing is free of ghosts,” writes acclaimed musician-poet Ruby Singh in Bladed Edge Between, a soulful and melodic collection that invites readers to listen, with their hearts blown wide open, to the ways the past offers in one breath “the combustion of broken dreams and loss” and in the next a “sanctuary” in which the “divine is glowing.” Marked by a yearning for one’s ancestral roots in the Punjab, as well as a deep reverence for the foremothers whose protective prayers sing through time, these poems guide us, no matter what our respective origin story is, closer to the healing power of remembering, of music, of language.
—Faisal Mohyuddin, author of Elsewhere: An Elegy
and The Displaced Children of Displaced Children

Ruby Singh’s poems navigate the loss and thrash of mortality, [where] winged forms lift, and the mother tongue finds a vessel. Attuned to cellular vibration, the rhythm of snowflakes, and the sonics of constellations, Bladed Edge Between is illuminated by lamplight and dances in the celestial glow. Beautiful.
—Cecily Nicholson, author of Harrowings and Crowd Source and recipient of Governor General’s Literary Award for Poetry

Bladed Edge Between is a linguistic, lyrical, literary, and spiritual experience of stories “risen from iridescent scales” that forge a narrative mosaic of grace. These poems reshape boundaries of form, genre, and culture in an almost mythical quest for creative fusion and spiritual mastery. Ruby Singh’s book is a poetic collection of wonder, of revelation, a transcendental spell of prophetic magic, a fully grown work of art. He has “found the divine” here.
